Match Day Mascot Max

A Match Day Mascot Report from Max (6D)

On Saturday 1st November I was lucky enough to be a mascot for the mighty Stoke City FC, who were playing West Ham United.  The journey took 3 hours and we left home at 6am.  As we travelled to Stoke, we were listening to the radio in the car and I was shocked to hear my name announced on Talk-Sport.

When we arrived at the ground we were escorted to the Mascot lounge where our kits were hung up, just like the players.  We changed into our kit and then had a tour of the ground.  We also had our photos taken next to the players' kits in their changing rooms.

After lunch, which was pie and chips, served in a Stoke City box, we were given instructions of what we had to do when going on to the pitch.

Then it was time to go down to the pitch, we firstly had our photos taken while the players were training.  I was lucky enough to be standing in the middle for the group photos and so the players stood by me with their hands on my shoulders as they came out. We then had the opportunity to train alongside the players which was absolutely amazing but I found it difficult to concentrate because I was looking at the players for the entire time!

Then we went in to the tunnel.  I couldn't believe my luck when Stoke's goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic, took my hand as we walked out onto the pitch. The atmosphere was amazing with 27,000 people cheering. Begovic actually spoke to me!!!!! He said 'You alright?'.  I will never forgot those words!

We walked out to the centre circle and then I shook all the West Ham players' hands.  We were then led off to join our parents and watch the match.

The final score was 2 all.  Stoke were by far the better side, West Ham just got lucky, but  at least we walked away with 1 point. (My dad wrote that part!)

I thoroughly enjoyed my day!
